Genuine vegetable parchment is a unique, totally natural paper made from cellulose. It doesn't require the use of chemical additives to form a barrier against grease. The simple process of modifying a relatively normal paper into vegetable parchment creates a material with a number of unique natural properties. Genuine vegetable parchment owes its unique strength and heat resistance to a two-phase manufacturing process. A "waterleaf" base paper is produced and then "parchmentized" by immersing it in an acid bath to jellify the fibers. This results in a very robust, dense structure with high tensile and wet strength that is a nutral physical barrier to grease and resins.
