For highly precise positioning applications, Baumer Ltd. has introduced two new high resolution optical encoders that offer exceptional repeat accuracy. These programmable encoders offer resolutions in excess of 1.2 million pulses per revolution and repeat accuracy of 0.012 degrees at a 1.3 MHz maximum switching frequency.
The desired resolution of these new optical encoders can be easily programmed in the field using computer software over a BiSS interface, a feature that reduces encoder inventory requirements. These encoders produce perfect sine wave signals that are interpolated internally into square wave signals, making them ideal for accurate speed control or precision positioning of robotic devices, medical diagnostic equipment, print heads, heavy equipment components, packaging machinery, and aerospace feedback systems.
These small cylindrical encoders have a housing diameter of just 58 mm, allowing them to be integrated into a variety of restricted space applications. Both 12 mm hollow shaft and through shaft versions of these encoders will be available.
