In our effort to curb the adverse health effects of lead contamination of drinking water especially on infants, children, pregnant, and lactating women. We know that one of the main potential sources of lead in drinking water is the lead content found in both the service lines and connection fittings that can leach into the water over time. All current standard CA360 & CA377 brass rod and bronze casting raw material contains a small portion of lead in its composition to aid in the machinability of the material. Our new lead free brass fittings, made from (CDA) C69300 raw material, will reduce this small amount of lead to just a trace (0.1%), thus eliminating the possibility of toxic lead leaching in drinking water systems from our fittings.
There was an attempt by several United States Senators in May of 2004 to pass legislation that would require all new plumbing fittings and fixtures to be made of lead free material. We feel that it is just a matter of time before such legislation is incorporated into future amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act.
WHY SHOULD YOU BUY OUR LEAD FREE BRASS FITTINGS?
1. It is considered lead free. This environmentally friendly fitting dramatically decreases the risk of harmful lead leaching into drinking water systems to less than 0.005mg/L, currently the toughest known drinking water standard in the world. That helps protect everyone from lead contamination via drinking water.
2. It is highly corrosion resistant. Our new lead free brass contains only 21% Zinc, much lower than typical brass rod raw material construction, and an addition of 3% Silicon, which suppresses stress corrosion cracking. During ISO 6509 dezincification resistance testing our lead free brass had a maximum corrosion depth of nearly zero while the typical CA360 and CA377 brass rod raw material had corrosion to a depth of nearly 1mm.
3. It is thirty times less sensitive to stress corrosion cracking. Under JIS A method testing on hex nuts with 1500 kgf/cm torque loaded soaking in an atmosphere of NH4OH aqueous solution of not less than 11.8% concentration for two hours at room temperature to identify cracks through visual observation. Both CA360 and CA377 developed signs of cracking within the first several hours. Our new lead free brass took nearly 250 hours of testing to develop signs of cracking.
4. It is as strong as 303 & 304 Stainless Steel. Our new lead free brass has a tensile strength of 600 N/mm2. That is 1.4 times stronger than typical CA360 and CA377 and equivalent to that of C6782 the strongest wrought copper alloy in production today. It has the same tensile strength and a higher yield strength than 303 and 304 stainless steel.
5. It has a jewelry smooth finish. Our new lead free fittings have one-half the roughness of the typical machined surface of both CA360 and CA377 brass fittings. This means a jewelry-like finish on the surface of our new lead free fittings.
