About Surface Finishing Products and Equipment

Surface finishing products and surface finishing equipment are used to refine or roughen a surface to meet surface finish requirements, or to clean, strengthen, or prepare the surface for additional processing. A surface finishing product can come in many forms from convoluted wheels to sponge pads, which offer a range in the level of cleaning and finishing, deburring, and polishing. These types of products are used with surface finishing equipment ranging from bench motors, grinders and polishers, to sanders. A finishing product may be made of non-woven nylon combined with abrasive grain and resin to provide for a variety of light to heavy finishing.

Finishing systems use surface finishing products and equipment differently depending on the purpose of the application. Centrifugal barrel finishing uses compressive forces of barrels placed on a turret to produce finishes faster than conventional methods. Ductile grinding is another example of a finishing system used for ceramics, glass, and other brittle materials that uses extremely fine grit to minimize its penetration onto a surface. Surface finishing products and equipment are used with ductile grinding to produce a finer, higher quality finish.
