Cyclone Separators

Cyclone separators and centrifugal separators utilize centrifugal, gravitational, and inertial forces to remove fine particles suspended in air or gas. This type of separator uses cyclonic action to separate particulate from a gas stream. Typically, dust enters cyclone separators and centrifugal separators at an angle, and is then spun rapidly. A centrifugal force is created by the circular airflow, and throws the particulate towards the wall of the cyclone. Once they hit the wall, the particulate falls into a hopper below. Dusty exhaust is either blown out, or filtered again.

There are two common types of cyclone separators and centrifugal separators, single-cyclone separators and multiple-cyclone separators. Single-cyclone separators and centrifugal separators use a dual vortex to separate heavier and fine particles. In this type of cyclone separators and centrifugal separators, the main vortex circles downward to pickup coarse dust particles. At the same time, the inner vortex is created at the bottom of the cyclone and circles upward to carry the finer dust particles.

Multiple cyclone separators and centrifugal separators are also available. These separators are also known as multiclones, as they have a number of small diameter cyclones. The smaller cyclones move parallel to each other and share a common gas inlet and outlet. Multiclone cyclone separators and centrifugal separators operate similar to single-cone separators. However, multiclones separators are more efficient because they are often longer and smaller in diameter. The longer length allows for longer resistance time, and the smaller diameter increases the centrifugal force. The pressure drop of multiclone cyclone separators and centrifugal separators is also higher than single-cyclone separators. These factors result in better separation of particulate. Other types of cyclone separators and centrifugal separators may also be available.

Cyclone separators and centrifugal separators may be used for a range of applications including abrasives, coolant or oil mist, explosive media, fine powders, general cleaning, litter pick-up, metalworking chips or fluids, non-free flowing powders/dust, reclaim or recycle applications, spill recovery, toxic media, and welding fumes.
