Stone Cutting Tools

Stone cutting tools are used for cutting, shaping, or carving stone. There are many types of stone cutting tools. Examples include a stone carving tool, stone mason tool, stone fabrication tool, stone working tool, and a stone power tool. A stone carving tool is of great significance to sculptors to shape or incise stone. Mallets, axes, adzes, bouchards, and toothed hammers are examples of stone carving tools. A stone fabricating tool includes custom turnings, veneers, and molded trim used to fabricate stones like marble, granite, and limestone. A stone working tool includes the tools used in stone splitting and carving such as a pitching tool for stone carving, a hand point chisel, and carbide tip. A stone power tool is a pair of handheld saws designed to cut through hard materials such as concrete and different stones. Power cutting saws are usually lightweight, gas, or hydraulic powered and are used as a stone cutting tool. Other stone cutting tools are commonly available.

There are several ways in which stone cutting tools function. A stone power tool includes power cutting saws, which can be either blade driven (standard diamond blade saws), ring saws (use a diamond ring blade), or chain driven (similar to wood cutting chainsaw) in design. Diamond segmented blades are available with diameters of 250-3000 mm and core thickness of 1.8-9.5 mm, and are helpful in trimming and slabbing stones. A chisel 2-1/2 inch long and made from high carbon steel can be used to cut and trim bricks and blocks. A simple stone cutting tool with a blade diameter of 710 mm that runs on 230 V/50 Hz, 800 W works fine for stone cutting. Laser stone cutting tools with a three axis cutting system and two dimensions provide a working stroke of 102 x 244 inches, while the largest provides a work envelope of 179 x 1200 inches. Stone cutting tools are designed and manufactured to meet most industry specifications.

Stone cutting tools are used in many applications. Examples include their use in carving, quarrying, and fabricating stones in making a stone tool. Stone cutting tools are used by the masons in dressing stone blocks for use in architecture, building, or civil engineering. Sculptors use stone carving tools to make their sculptures. Other uses of Stone cutting tools include cutting and polishing of various precious stones and gems such as diamonds and emeralds. Stone cutting tools should adhere to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards.
