About Well Drilling Tools
Well drilling tools are used to drill wells and perform excavation activities for water, oil, and natural gas exploration. A well drilling tool is needed to make wells in a variety of ways including digging, driving, boring, or drilling. Modern well drilling equipment utilizes long drill shafts, producing holes much narrower and deeper than could be produced by human labor. Well drilling tools are needed for various types of drilling activities including oil well drilling, gas well drilling, and water well drilling. Oil well drilling and gas well drilling is carried on in various stages. The first is drilling, then running and cementing new casings, and then drilling again. When rock cuttings from the mud reveal the oil sand from the reservoir rock, they may have reached the final depth. At this point, the drilling is removed from the hole and several tests are performed to confirm this finding. Water well drilling equipment includes a mechanical pump, which is used to draw water from a source below the surface of the earth. There are various other types of drilling activities for which well drilling tools are used.
Various types of well drilling tools and logging equipment are available to well drillers, engineers, and consultants. The most common type of this equipment used for domestic water wells is the single-electrode electric logger, which measures and records the changes between an electrode placed in the test hole and a second electrode at the surface, usually in the mud pit. Well drilling services includes excavating slush pits and cellars, gradings, and building of foundations at well locations, well surveying, running, cutting, and pulling casings tubes, and rods, cementing wells, shooting wells, perforating well casings, acidizing and chemically treating wells, and cleaning out, bailing, and swabbing wells. All well drilling activities are supervised by a well drilling contractor who generally has a contract with an oil company to supervise the operations at a drilling or well site and also coordinates the hiring of logging, testing, service, and work over companies. Well drilling tools break the earth using drill bits, which is then washed out of the hole with drilling mud and the drill string to which the bit is attached is gradually lengthened as the well gets deeper. Well drilling tools can be designed and manufactured to meet most industry specifications.
