Welding Accessories

Welding accessories include many products used in the welding and joining process.  Torches, nozzles, regulators, safety devices and protective clothing, sensors, and positioners are examples of the many devices used in the welding process.

Gun or torch welding accessories include guns and torches for gas metal arc welding (GMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), plasma arc welding, arc gouging, Oxyfuel or gas, multi-process, and resistance welding applications.

Nozzle welding accessories include nozzles for alumina, lava, gas metal arc welding (GMAW), Gas / Acetylene, deflection, plastic welding, scarfing and cutting, and arc, plasma and laser cutting welding applications.

Positioner and manipulator welding accessories include tube and circumferential welder, turning roll and rotator, weld manipulator, positioner and turntable, longitudinal seamer, robotic positioning station, and head and tail stock type positioners and manipulators.

General welding accessories include air systems, aprons and clothing, booths and curtains, clamps and holders, coolers, cylinder trucks and carts, flashback arrestors, gloves, grinders and cutters, grounding clamps, helmets and masks and goggles, hoses, hose reels, markers, nozzle cleaners, planishers, regulators, strikers, torch handles, tools, weld enclosures and gloveboxes, and weld sensors. Air systems Include fresh air supply and systems for evacuation of fumes and vapors.  Flashback arrestors utilize check valves to prevent the reverse flow of gas.  Ground clamps connect the grounding wire to a surface or grounding point; allow dissipation of welding current while minimizing arcing. A planisher is a piece of weld finishing equipment that flattens weld to a surface even with the base metal; roll planishers are often used on finishing circumferential pipe welds.  Weld sensors measure and provide feedback for important parameters in welding processes, such as current, temperature and force.  Some are displacement sensors used to detect position and orientation for consistent nut placement, etc.

Specific processes that use welding accessories include gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, shielded metal arc welding and plasma arc welding.  The Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) process is commonly known as the Metal Inert Gas (MIG) process.  MIG welding is also referred to as short circuit transfer.  The Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) process is commonly called Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding process.  The TIG welding process joins metals by melting base and filler metals with an arc struck between a tungsten electrode and the work piece.  Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) or stick electrode welding is among the most widely used welding processes.  The flux covering the electrode melts during welding forming gas and slag, which shields the arc and molten weld pool.  Plasma arc welding is similar to TIG (GTAW) welding except a more collimated plasma stream is used to fuse work pieces and/or filler alloys.
