Inspection, Layout and Gaging Accessories

Inspection and gaging accessories include probes, sensors, hand tools, styli, contact tips, supplies and other components for dimensional measurement, inspecting, marking, layout or other manufacturing or machine shop applications. Inspection and gaging accessories for machine shop applications include devices for marking finished products, such as a punch or scribe. Scribed lines are used to mark out the spot on a work surface for attaching a strain gage.

Inspection and gaging accessories include probes and styli for coordinate measuring machines (CMM). Coordinate measuring machines or CMM machines are used to measure specific characteristics on the surface of a workpiece. A CMM probe is an automated measuring probe that passes over the work surface and is used to replace manually-operated measurement devices such as micrometers, Vernier calipers, and other dedicated gages. A CMM probe is an inspection system that consists of a set of interchangeable styli that can measure a variety of measurements, including profile measurement, dimensional measurement, and depth or bore mapping. Inspection and gaging accessories also include gage blocks and gage balls, height gages, boroscopes and flexible tube viewing systems, snap gages, thread gages, and other measuring accessories such as centering squares and steel rules.

Inspection and gaging accessories include bench and test stands for testing hydraulic or pneumatic systems. Hydraulic systems used in commercial aircraft are extensively tested to ensure safety of components that are subject to operational stress. A hydraulic test stand allows an operator to test a variety of hydraulic pumps and motors by connecting them to special adapters on the test stand. Inspection and gaging accessories for hydraulic testing may also include systems that can purify hydraulic fluid. Test stands are also used to test hydraulic equipment in manufacturing facilities.

Suppliers of inspection and gaging accessories are located across North America and around the world. They adhere to a variety of standards and guidelines. In the United States, devices are often calibrated against standards from the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST).
