Coolant Systems

About Coolant Systems

Coolant Systems pump liquids to cool and lubricate work pieces and cutting tools. A coolant system removes excess heat from an engine. When the engine burns fuel, only one third of the released energy goes into mechanical energy to machines, and the rest is converted to heat. To safeguard an engine from this heat a coolant system is used. There are various types of coolant systems. Examples include a liquid cooling system, machine cooling system, and an industrial cooling system. Generally liquid cooling systems are used in computers. A liquid cooling system circulates a liquid through a heat sink attached to the processor inside of the computer. As the liquid passes through the heat sink, heat is transferred from the hot processor to the cooler liquid. A machine cooling system can be used to cool different types of machinery such as water pumps and wielding machines. Refrigerant based chiller units can be sited next to a process machine to provide individual machine cooling. An industrial cooling system is used in industries as industrial water chillers and ancillary cooling equipment for both process cooling and air conditioning applications. A machine tool coolant system is a high pressure coolant system that can be used in variety of machines. Other coolant systems are commonly available.

There are several ways in which coolant systems function. Coolant systems can be used to cool just one machine or equipment or can be centralize cooling systems. In centralized cooling systems pipes are used to circulate the cooling water around the factory. Coolant systems can be refrigerant based or forced air based (sometimes called air blast coolers), depending upon the temperature of water required. A coolant system can be developed according to the specification provided by customers and equipments used. Some of the specifications that should be considered before using a machine cooling system are cooling capacity, power consumption, power source, and operating current, compressor, fan, and pump. A machine tool coolant system provides optimal tool life. A machine tool coolant system improves the performance of tools by delivering five micron filtered coolants directly to the machine tool head at the proper temperature and pressure. Machine tool coolant is pumped to pressures of 1000 psi (70 bar) or more to avoid adverse effects during the machining process. These adverse effects may include premature tool failure due to abrasion and thermal shock, chipping caused by recutting swarf, dimensional variations due to thermal growth from frictional heat, work hardening of the surface, and lower levels of surface finish. Coolant systems are designed and manufactured to meet most industry specifications.
