Tool kits contain different types and sizes of tools, often in a convenient carrying case. There are many different types of products. Examples include field service, fiber optic, telecommunications, network, computer, plant maintenance, and biomedical tool kits.
Field service tool kits are used by field technicians who repair, troubleshoot and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment. Fiber optic tool kits provide tools for splicing, crimping, stripping, polishing, and testing fiber optic cable. Telecommunications tool kits enable telephone technicians to install, maintain, and troubleshoot voice and data systems for telephony applications. Network tool kits enable information technology (IT) departments to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (LAN). Computer repair services use computer tool kits to fix, upgrade, configure and maintain personal computers (PC), workstations, and servers. Plant maintenance tool kits are used by maintenance repair organizations (MRO) that serve the automotive and aerospace industries. Biomedical tool kits are designed for biomedical engineers and medical personnel who repair X-ray machines and other medical monitoring equipment. General-purpose tool kits for repairing copiers and office equipment are also available. Some tool kits are insulated and/or include insulated tools to protect users from electric shock. A basic insulated took kit usually contains tools such as insulated pliers, insulated screw drivers, insulated nut runners, insulated cable cutters, and insulated wire strippers. There are many different types of insulated pliers. Choices include: high-leverage, side-cutting pliers; high-leverage, diagonal cutting pliers; and heavy-duty, long-nose pliers that are designed for side-cutting and skinning. There are also several different types of insulated screwdrivers. Pneumatic screwdrivers use compressed air and are designed for low-torque applications such as woodworking or sheet metal repair. Electric screwdrivers use alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC) power and are designed for applications that require higher levels of torque. For both types of tools, actuation methods include buttons, triggers, levers, and press-down heads or bits. Insulated crimping tools and cable strippers are used to prepare cables and wires for installation. Categories include cable tie tools, RJ45 crimping tools, hand crimp tools, and compression crimp tools. Insulated tool kits that contain specialized hand tools are also commonly available.
