About Coating Equipment

Coating equipment is used to apply organic, inorganic or metal coatings onto part surfaces for industrial applications. Complete coating systems include all of the necessary components and systems, and may be designed for use in a fixed location. Coating equipment components, subsystems, and replacement parts are also available. Often, coating equipment suppliers provide a variety of coating components. Examples include applicators and guns, booths and rooms, cabinets and hoods, dip tanks and pans, drying and curing units, feeding and metering units, gas controls and regulators, hoppers and tanks, integral process controllers, metrology units and film monitors, pumps, compressors, robotic arms, separators, spray cups, production tunnels, and vacuum pumps. Some coating equipment is manually-controlled or designed for batch operations. Other coating systems can operate continuously, with little or no operator involvement.

There are many different types of coating equipment. Examples include dip coaters, dip-spin coaters, e-coating systems, electrostatic equipment, and electrochemical deposition (ECD) machines. Immersion coaters dip parts into a tank and allow excess coating media to fall back into the tank. Centrifugal or dip-spin coaters also immerse parts in a tank, but spin the parts to remove the excess coating. E-coat, electrocoat or electrophoretic coating equipment uses the charging of particles to attract paint, coating particles, or molecules in an immersion bath to the surface of a submerged part. With electrostatic coaters, paint droplets or particles are charged and then sprayed toward a part with an opposite and attractive electric charge. ECD coating equipment uses processes such as electrochemical deposition, liquid-phase epitaxy, electroless plating, electroplating, and electrophoretic deposition.
