About Rolls and Rollers
Rolls and rollers are cylindrical components used to drive, form, press together or handle webs of sheet metal, cloth, plastic, paper or other materials. There are many different types of products. Examples include conveyor rollers, rubber rollers, foam rollers, and ring rollers. A conveyor roller provides smooth, uninterrupted operation. A rubber roller provides relatively high rates of production. A foam roller is designed for the gentler handling of materials. A ring roller includes adjustable die pins for working with sheet metal. Most rolls and rollers are used inside of manufacturing equipment such as conveyors to guide materials and transmit power. The roller equipment that a company requires depends upon the application to perform and the type of material to handle.
Rolls and rollers are used with materials such as plastic, cloth, paper, and sheet metal. Rolls and rollers such as conveyor rollers can be either powered or non-powered. A powered conveyor roller is either belt or chained driven. A non-powered conveyor roller is used as a gravity conveyor by inclining the roller section. Both types of conveyor rollers are suitable for accumulating loads and merging and sorting materials. A foam roller is generally made from flexible polyurethane material and adheres to guidelines determined by the Joint Industry Polyurethane Foam Committee (JIPFC). A ring roller rolls circles and arches out of hot rolled steel. A handwheel drives a heat-treated drive roller which in turn forces the material over hydraulically-adjustable die rollers to form different ring sizes. A rubber roller should meet high-end requirements, tight tolerances, and include high-grade elastomers for maximum longevity and durability.
