Skimmer Type

Primary Function      There are two basic types of oil skimmers. One type is used to filter and remove oil, debris, and other unwanted materials from water, solvents, cleaning solutions, etc. The other type is used to recover or capture oil in a usable state. Typically, these skimmers are used to clean up oil spills in factories, refineries, bodies of water, etc.
   Your choices are...

   Oil Filtering / Removal

The skimmer's primary function is to filter oil and oily products from the media.

   Oil Recovery

The skimmer's primary function is to recover usable oil or oil products from the media.

   Other

Other unlisted or specialized primary function.

   Technology
   Your choices are...

   Gravity

Gravity skimmers rely upon the difference in specific gravity between the oil and the water or solution. Oil floats to the top and is removed. Gravity skimmers are the simplest type of oil skimmers, but are slower than other devices because they use a less active technology.

   Belt

Belt skimmers run through a contaminated liquid continuously, using a belt to pick up the oil. The oil is then removed from the belt, often with a wiper.

   Wheel

Wheel skimmers pass a coated disc or wheel through the contaminated liquid. The disc or wheel picks up the oil, which is then skimmed off outside the tank.

   Tube / Side Mount

With tube skimmers, a rope or string is circulated through the contaminated liquid to pick up the oil. Tube skimmers can be side-mounted for low clearance applications.

   Sponge / Absorption

Sponge skimmers use absorptive materials that are designed to capture oil, but not water or other filtered solutions. When they reach absorptive capacity, sponge skimmers are often disposed of as solid waste.

   Coalescing

Coalescing oil skimmers pass contaminated water through a coalescing media.

   Centrifuge

Centrifuge skimmers separate media by spinning and causing the denser material (water) to migrate to the outside, where it can be separated.

   Floating Weir

Floating weir skimmers include floats and an adjustable-height weir that can be positioned at the oil-water interface so that the contaminant flows into the weir and the water stays out. Floating weir skimmers are often used in tanks to remove pollutants.

   Handheld / Suction

Handheld or suction skimmers are small, portable devices used in small spaces such as sumps and manholes. A weir or plate is mounted at the bottom of a pipe and lowered by hand to the interface. The suction then draws the contaminant from the water.

   Other

     Other unlisted or proprietary technologies.

Search Logic:      All products with ANY of the selected attributes will be returned as matches. Leaving all boxes unchecked will not limit the search criteria for this question; products with all attribute options will be returned as matches.
Specifications

   Removal Rate

Removal rate is the rate at which oil or other contaminants are removed or recovered.

Search Logic:      User may specify either, both, or neither of the "At Least" and "No More Than" values. Products returned as matches will meet all specified criteria.
   Total Flow

The total flow through the skimmer includes water, oil, sludge, etc.

Search Logic:      User may specify either, both, or neither of the "At Least" and "No More Than" values. Products returned as matches will meet all specified criteria.
   Capacity

This is the total capacity (if applicable) for the tank or vessel.

Search Logic:      All matching products will have a value greater than or equal to the specified value.
