Cooling Tower Type

   Type
   Your choices are...

   Forced Draft

A forced draft cooling tower where the fan or fans are located at the bottom of the tower. Cooling air is pushed up through stack.

   Induced Draft

An induced draft cooling tower where the fan or fans are located on top of the tower. Cooling air is pulled up through stack.

   Natural Draft

Natural draft cooling towers use natural convective airflow moving up the stack to cool the water. These systems are very large, very expensive and used mostly by power utility companies.

   Other

Other unlisted, specialized, or proprietary cooling method.

   Design
   Your choices are...

   Cross Flow

Cross flow design mixes air and water at a 90-degree angle. The advantages of this design include low pressure drop and low power consumption.

   Counter Flow

Counter flow design mixes air and water in a vertical flow method where the water is falling and the air is rising. The advantage of this design is a smaller footprint.

   Closed Loop

A closed loop system works similarly to a refrigeration system. The cooling water is contained inside a closed piping system and evaporative cooling occurs by running water over the pipe containing the heated water.

   Open Loop

An open loop system pumps the heated water into a tank at the top of the tower. The water cascades down through a series of louvers or plates in the system while cooling air is moving upwards. The evaporative effect removes heat from the water that is then recirculated back into the process.

Specifications

   Motor Power

The rating of the motor used to drive the fan in the cooling tower. In the US it will typically be rated in Horsepower (HP) while other countries may use Watts (W).

Search Logic:      User may specify either, both, or neither of the "At Least" and "No More Than" values. Products returned as matches will meet all specified criteria.
   Cooling Capacity

The rated volume of air that is moved through the tower in a given time. It is typically rated in tons.

Search Logic:      User may specify either, both, or neither of the "At Least" and "No More Than" values. Products returned as matches will meet all specified criteria.
   Flow Rate

The flow rate of cooling water through the tower during a given time. Tower flow rates vary as a function of size or cooling capacity.

Search Logic:      User may specify either, both, or neither of the "At Least" and "No More Than" values. Products returned as matches will meet all specified criteria.
   Sump / Basin Capacity

This is the catch basin or sump where the cooled water is collected. Each system has a basin specifically designed to meet the needs of the plant.

Search Logic:      All matching products will have a value greater than or equal to the specified value.
   Operating Weight

The operating weight of the cooling tower should be used to determine where the tower should be placed. For instance, the operating weight cannot exceed the rated load of the roof it will sit on.

Search Logic:      User may specify either, both, or neither of the "At Least" and "No More Than" values. Products returned as matches will meet all specified criteria.
Supply Voltage      The supply voltage and phase type used by the fan motor.
   Your choices are...

   DC Power

Direct current (DC) has a constant voltage and current.

   115 / 120 VAC

A common voltage supply for residential and commercial use.

   208 / 230 / 240 VAC

230 Volts AC is a typical voltage used for smaller cooling tower fans. May be a single or three phase supply.

   480 VAC

480 Volts AC is a standard plant and factory supply voltage used in North America.

   575 / 600 VAC

A three phase supply voltage used in the North America.

   International / Other

International and all other power requirements that can include 50 Hz frequency supplies.

Search Logic:      All products with ANY of the selected attributes will be returned as matches. Leaving all boxes unchecked will not limit the search criteria for this question; products with all attribute options will be returned as matches.
   Supply Phase
   Your choices are...

   Single Phase

Single phase will typically be used with lower supply voltages like 230VAC.

   Three Phase

Three phase supply refers to the type of power supplied to electrical equipment where there is a 120-degree phase shift between feeder lines.

Search Logic:      All products with ANY of the selected attributes will be returned as matches. Leaving all boxes unchecked will not limit the search criteria for this question; products with all attribute options will be returned as matches.
Construction / Material

   Your choices are...

   Fiberglass Reinforced Polyester (FRP)

Fiberglass reinforced polyester (FRP) is the material of the major body parts of the tower. This material is used in applications where there are components in the water that are highly corrosive to metal.

   Metal

This includes galvanized steel, stainless steel and any other metal used in the construction of the tower.

   Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is used in applications where there are corrosive materials in the water.

   Wood

Wood is a common building material used in cooling towers.

   Concrete

Concrete is used as the primary material in the natural flow cooling towers. It is used in other types as well.

   Polyethylene

Polyethylene is used where the cooling water has corrosive elements in it.

   Other

Any other type of tower body material not listed.

Search Logic:      All products with ANY of the selected attributes will be returned as matches. Leaving all boxes unchecked will not limit the search criteria for this question; products with all attribute options will be returned as matches.
Features & Options

   Your choices are...

   Corrosion Resistant

Corrosion resistant materials are used in towers where the cooling water also contains corrosive chemicals and materials.

   Control Panel

A control is included with the cooling tower.

   Electric Basin Heater

In colder climates, it may be necessary to heat the catch basin to prevent freezing.

   Indoor Storage Tank

Indoor tanks are used instead of outdoor basins in cold climates or where temporary storage is needed. They perform the same function as a regular basin.

Ladders are used to gain access to the top of the cooling tower.

   Sealed Bearings

Sealed bearings extend the life of the fan bearings and motor bearings.

   Portable

Portable cooling towers are available in a fairly wide variety of capacities. They are trucked onto the user site and plumbed into their system. These are temporary installations why maintenance or repair is being performed on the regular site unit.
